A website visitor recently asked if a Walneck’s Motorcycle Swap Meet was going to be canceled. And given the depths of misery we’ve seen this winter across the midwest, it’s a fair question. Here’s what Buzz told me when I forwarded the question on to him:
“In 41 years and likely 350 – 400 swaps, we have NEVER cancelled a single one ! The flyers usually say “rain, shine or snow !” and we mean it. Ed (Buzz and Pixie’s son) says that if one of us died the meet would still go on! We have no way to contact ALL the vendors and people that come out. So no matter – good or bad – they will not show up without us greeting them. We have had some really awful ones in Ohio, code II roads, ILLEGAL to operate ANYWHERE and we had it. On going back to the hotel, every restaurant and store in town was closed at about 3PM. We saw a store called Meijers, and they had a deli, so we got some food. I asked an employee why they were still open ? He said, “We are open 24-hours a day, 365. If the store is on fire – we stay open !'”
So there you have it, if you’re wondering whether bad weather will cause a show to be cancelled, the answer is simple: Nope. Come on down, we’re waiting for you.
